Cuckoo in the quarry

0530 - 0745 overcast, cool but warming, becoming brighter

Not the full circuit today as didn't have time....however...a reasonable count for warblers...

Warbler count:

Nightingale 5
Blackcap 18
Chiffchaff 19
Whitethroat 6
Willow Warbler 10
Lesser Whitethroat 1
Cettis Warbler 1

...there were also some Sedge Warblers on site....these should become reasonably numerous and difficult to count in the next couple of weeks....

Chiffchaff count seemed a bit low but not all areas where I have seen or heard them before were represented so I'm guessing not a full count for the areas I covered.

The Nightingales are getting there....again a bit on / off with song....but great to hear.

The Cettis Warbler has decided to move slightly further east...not far....but it now seems to be ranging along the northern border between island pit and hidden pit reeds....

The Cuckoo was on site today, especially around the quarry area and I managed to snatch a brief view which was nice.

25 Swallows were over the west pit for a while before moving off west.

2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a male Mandarin Duck were the water highights.
